Tips for creatives in quarantine

The COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting every facet of life. Office buildings are empty and people are withdrawing to wait out the virus. Staying safe and healthy should always be your first priority, but many are faced with sudden isolation and don’t know how to handle it. Hours can seem like years when social distancing and creativity can wane. Here are tips on how to not live in creative isolation from Creative Bloq, part of international media group and leading digital publisher Future plc.

1. Be bold and focus

It might seem like now is the time to binge your favorite show, but be bold and focus on your work. TV will still be there when you need a break, which you can and should take. But do not lose yourself in the endless hours of quarantine. Keep creating.

2. Talk to people

Technology has made it easier than ever to connect with people from a safe distance. Video chats, social media, LinkedIn, or even just emails are all ways to reach out and start conversations. Reach out and form new relationships, and you might learn something new.

3. Use the gift of time

There is a lot of uncertainty about how long quarantines will last. In times like these, the best thing you can do is create. Help out a local business with a logo, or simply work on your own designs. Organize your portfolio. Update your website. Stay productive, stay creative, and stay ahead of the game.

4. Find your tribe

While connecting with new people encourages growth, having a steady group to bounce ideas off of can help you develop your skills. If you don’t have a tribe, now is a great time to look for one. Check job postings and LinkedIn groups. The people and quality of work are more important than titles. Stay upbeat and positive—good energy is captivating.
